INDIA COMPRA EL AW-101, Y ES PROBABLE QUE EL EUROFIGHTER.../INDIA BUYS AW-101 HELOS TO ITALY, AND (PERHAPS) TYPHOON TOO...



El ministerio de defensa indio, está próximo a firmar un contrato con Augusta Westland de Italia para helicópteros de transporte VIP, en concreto 12 unidades del AW-101 para la fuerza aérea india. Los helicópteros serán usados por el presidente y el primer ministro, y llevarán avanzados equipos de comunicaciones y medidas de autoprotección. Será el contrato de exportación mas importante firmado entre Italia y la India desde 1960. Estados Unidos ha firmado por 20 helicópteros del mismo tipo. Sustituirán a los Mi-17. Por otra parte según Reuters, el embajador indio en Italia, dijo al primer ministro italiano Silvio Berlusconi que el Typhoon lidera la carrera por ganar el contrato del Gobierno Indio por 126 cazas, valorado en 10.4 billones de dólares.
Los concursantes son el Boeing F/A-18, el Dassault Rafale, Lockheed Martin con el F-16, el MiG-35, el Saab JAS-39 y el Eurofighter Typhoon. Una fuente de Eurofighter dice que los vuelos de prueba terminarán en abril, a la que seguiría una pronta decisión.

Defence ministry is scrambling to sign a deal to purchase Italian Augusta Westland VVIP helicopter before the Budget is presented.
The defence ministry short listed Finmeccanica’s helicopter division, Augusta Westland, as it emerged the frontrunner in a multi-million contract to supply 12 AW-101 VVIP helicopter for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The helicopter would be used by the President and the Prime Minister. Cabinet Committee on Security, too, gave its clearance early December after finance ministry gave the purchase a go ahead.
The Indian contract, which is expected to be signed soon for the flying offices equipped with advanced communication aids and self-protection devices, is likely to be the greatest Italian export to India since 1960s. While the IAF would buy 12 helicopter, the US has placed an order for 20 machines.
The new machines are to replace the Mi-17 machines in the Air.
On the other hand according Reuters, Indian ambassador to Italy told Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi that Typhoon is leading the race to win a contract from the Indian government for 126 fighter jets, valued at around $10.4 billion.
The contenders are Boeing F/A-18,Dassault Rafale, Lockheed Martin F-16, Russia's MiG-35, Saab JAS-39 y el Eurofighter Typhoon.
A Eurofighter source said the test flights were expected to finish by April, and a decision would follow.
