UN PILOTO DE LA RAF VUELA EN EL F-35/RAF PILOT FLIES F-35

Un piloto de la Royal Air Force británica (RAF), se ha convertido en el primer británico en volar el F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. Steve Long, voló el BF-2, el segundo prototipo de F-35B, desde NASPatuxent River, Maryland, Estados Unidos, en el decimooctavo vuelo de prueba, llegando hasta los 20.000 pies, en un vuelo de 80 minutos de duración. Piltos y personal de tierra británicos pronto comenzarán entrenamiento en el F-35, en la base aérea de Eglin, Texas, para preparar la llegada al Reino Unido del primer avión de producción en el 2011.

A Royal Air Force serviceman has become the first active-duty pilot from the UK to take the controls of the F-35B Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter. Squadron Leader Steve Long flew BF-2, the second short takeoff and vertical landing (STOVL) F-35B on a sortie from Naval Air Station Patuxent River in Maryland on its 18th test flight, taking the aircraft to 20,000ft on the 80 minute flight. British pilots and ground crew will soon start initial training at Eglin Air Force Base in Texas in readiness to receive the first production aircraft in 2011.
