Israel has determined that the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah acquired the extended-range Scud D ballistic missile from Syria. A senior Israeli official asserted that Hizbullah obtained an unspecified number of Scud Ds from Syrian military arsenals.
Amos Gilad, head of the Defense Ministry’s Political-Military Directorate, said the Scud D contained a warhead of 150 kilograms and could fly 700 kilometers. “It can strike Israel from anywhere in Lebanon,” Gilad said. In an address to the Israel Missile Defense Association on Feb. 26,
Gilad said Hizbullah recently acquired the Scud Ds.
