President Cristina Fernandez fired the commander of an air force base on this capital's outskirts after more than 30,000 rounds of ammunition were stolen from an armory, Argentine officials said Thursday.
She made the decision after demanding an explanation from the head of Argentina's armed forces, Jorge Chevalier, for the theft, discovered Wednesday at an air force ammo deposit in El Palomar, a town 30 kilometers (18 miles) from Buenos Aires.
