India is to delay its decision on awarding the Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contract. News agency Bloomberg is reporting that India is to delay its decision on awarding the Indian Air Force’s Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft (MMRCA) contract, due today. Flight trials are still ongoing between the major competitors; Boeing’s F/A-18 Super Hornet, Lockheed Martin’s F-16IN, Saab’s Gripen, Dassault’s Rafale, Eurofighter’s Typhoon and Mikoyan’s MiG-35.
According to the report, the original bids expire today and the IAF risks an increase in cost of up to $1 billion if the rival companies up the price in a resubmission, asked for by the Indian Defence Ministry, which has given the bidders a further year. “They have the option of increasing or decreasing their price,” said a spokesman.
