Two different versions of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter aircraft on Friday successfully landed at an unconventional base at the Motorway thus achieving another historic milestone to make it a real potent force.
The daring skill to operate from an unconventional strip at a specific point on Islamabad-Lahore Motorway was witnessed by a large number of senior officers of PAF, Journalists and other officials of various civil and military departments.
Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan was chief guest on the occasion.
The aircraft including Mirage-V and F-7 PG equipped with weapon systems after safely landing at the strip were re-fueled, rearmed, and relaunched for air operations as part of the going exercise High Mark 2010.
"PAF has validated its concepts of fighter operations from the country-wide network of Motorways and National Highways from Peshawar to Karachi," said Spokesman of PAF Air Commodore Tariq Yazdani while briefing newsmen on the aims and objectives of the achievement.
He said that PAF after achieving this technique has joined the club of a few air forces around the globe which have attained such a capability.
The pilots of the aircraft Wing Commander Syed Ata Ur Rehman (Mirage) and Squadron Leader Nasir Mehmood (F-7 PG) after making remarkable achievement were seen very confident. They told mediapersons that they were in very high spirits and ready to render every pint of their blood for the safety and security of the motherland.
Amidst the high pitched slogans of Alllah- o- Akbar, Pakistan Zindabad and PAF Zindabad, the pilots said that they faced no difficulty while landing on an unconventional and un-traditional strip as they knew they will do it for the sake of their country.
"We were full with the spirit of patriotism," they added.
According to the experts present on the occasion landing of Mirage aircraft is most difficult operation especially in such an nontraditional environment and innovative conditions. Both the aircraft while touching down on the motorway were flying at a speed of around 300 miles per hour and even a minor error at that high speed could cause a major disaster, said the experts.
Minister Communication while talking to the jubilant people present on the occasion congratulated the PAF and the whole nation for the heroic achievement and said that the entire nation is behind the valiant defence forces in their endeavor to defend the country's geographical boundaries on ground, in air and the sea .
