Argentine MoD, FAdeA reach deal for three Pampa IIIs

A contract for three FAdeA IA-63 Pampa III advanced training aircraft for the Argentine Air Force was approved on 23 February, according to the official bulletin of the Chief of the Cabinets of Ministers.
The USD30.3 million contract was paid half up-front and the remainder is to be disbursed as deliveries are made.
In addition to the three aircraft, state-owned FAdeA is also providing Ground Control Mission Planner Station software, two Mobile Mission Planner Stations, and back-up equipment.
The contract was initially revealed on 14 December 2017. The Ministry of Defense (MoD) and FAdeA had been negotiating a production contract since early 2017 and expected to conclude the deal that same year, but budget decisions delayed its conclusion.

Pampa III takes first flight

Argentina's FAdeA IA-63 Pampa III advanced training aircraft took its first flight earlier in August, officials announced.
The Pampa III, provided through an upgrade programme by Israeli company Elbit Systems, maintains the general characteristics of the Pampa II, but incorporates two multi-functional screens, daytime and nighttime modes, and a simulation system that allows pilots to train more efficiently. The air force is also considering adding Elbit's Targo helmet-mounted display (HMD) system
Following approval of the trial aircraft's subsystems, it is expected that the Targo HMD will be standard across the Pampa III fleet.
The cockpit includes an Elbit SU 967 heads up display.

FAdeA to roll out new IA-63 Pampa III trainer variant

Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA) is expected to roll out a new version of its IA-63 Pampa III jet trainer on 10 October.
FAdeA is expected to produce an initial batch of 18 of the new aircraft. The company hopes to build a total of 100 Pampa IIIs for Argentina and export customers. Some of those will be configured as an attack variant.
The Pampa III is designed to avoid the use of any British-built components and this has included replacing the type's Martin-Baker Mk10 ejection seat with a Russian model.
While UK companies are being excluded because of a political dispute over the ownership of the Falkland Islands, foreign companies such as Israel Aerospace Industries, Elta Systems, Rockwell Collins, Liebherr and Sagem are supplying components for the Pampa III.
The Pampa III is expected to make its first flight in December 2013.
The Pampa III is the third iteration of the venerable trainer that was originally designed with assistance from the now-defunct German airframer Dornier Flugzeugwerke. Eighteen examples of the original design were built for the Argentinian air force in the late 1980s, while a second batch of modernised Pampa IIs was built in 2006.

Argentina's IA-63 Pampa III will have Russian ejection seat

The FAdeA president told reporters during a briefing at the Paris Air show Monday that the ban on the Martin-Baker ejection seat had been imposed by the government to “guarantee autonomy” of the new IA-63 Pampa III trainer/light attack aircraft.
Instead, the Argentine aircraft maker will turn to a Russian ejection-seat to supply the Pampa IIIs for the Argentine Air Force.
