General Dynamics unveils their guided missile frigate proposal for U.S. Navy, based on Spanish F-100 design

Major United States shipyard General Dynamics Bath Iron Works, has unveiled their guided missile frigate proposal under the FFG(X) program for the U.S. Navy.
The concept of new guided missile frigate was unveiled during annual Sea-Air-Space, the largest maritime exposition in the United States.
In February 2018, the U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics Bath Iron Works a $14.9 million contract for the concept design of the Navy’s planned Guided Missile Frigate (FFG(X)).
Bath Iron Works’ proposed design is based on a family of AEGIS Guided Missile Frigates designed by the Spanish shipbuilder Navantia.
The Navy’s initial request for proposals in November required that frigate designs be based on an existing hull form that is already in service. The Navy has said the requirement will make the planned production of 20 frigates more affordable and bring the ships to the fleet more quickly. The Detail Design and Construction award is planned to be in 2020.
Bath Iron Works designed the Navy’s prior frigate, the Oliver Hazard Perry class, and built many of the hulls. Bath Iron Works partnered with Navantia in the 1980s to adapt the Oliver Hazard Perry design for construction by the Spanish shipbuilding industry and for use by the Spanish Navy.

Israel Requires From US 29,350 JDAM and Paveway kits, 3,000 Hellfire missiles and 250 AIM-120Cs

The Government of Israel has requested a possible sale of 14,500 KMU-556C/B Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) tail kits consisting of 10,000 for Mk-84; 500 for Mk-83; and,4,000 for Mk-82; 3,500 Mk-82 bombs; 4,500 Mk-83 bombs; 50 BLU-113 bombs; 4,100 GBU-39 Small Diameter bombs; 1,500 Mk-83 Paveway kits; 700 BLU-109 Paveway kits; 3,000 AGM-114K/R Hellfire Missiles, 250 AIM-120C Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles; and 500 DSU-38A/B Detector Laser Illuminated Target kits for JDAMs.
The principal contractors will be Boeing, Lockheed-Martin,General Dynamics and Raytheon.
Implementation of this proposed sale will require travel of U.S. Government or contractor representatives to Israel.

US Blacklists Spanish Arms Dealer; GD Caught in Fray

A Spanish contractor importing night vision equipment intended for the Spanish Marine Corps and police agencies instead was illegally reselling the systems to security companies in Spain, the US State Department charged late Thursday.
In legal documents filed by the agency, several companies under his control are accused of violating International Traffic in Arms Regulations and resale of defense equipment.
Most of the night vision systems originated with small US contractors who were not accused of being involved in the resale activity, but in a wrinkle, a subsidiary of General Dynamics was apparently involved with one of the illegal deals.
The State Department said that General Dynamics-Santa Barbara Systems (GD-SBS) served as the middleman for a 2009 deal that saw night vision devices (NVDs) sold to Spanish security company Segur Iberica, by, Elint.
The State Department hasn’t taken any legal action against General Dynamics, and the documents detailing the transaction include GD-SBS’ defense that the company didn’t know the deal was illegal, and that the alleged conspirators in the transaction convinced them it was legal.
General Dynamics bought Santa Barbara Systems from the Spanish government in 2001, and the unit currently operates as part of the company’s European Land Systems division.

General Dynamics to Make More Upgrades on USS Eisenhower

General Dynamics, was awarded an $82.5 million modification to an undefinitized contract to perform maintenance and upgrade work on the nuclear aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower (CVN 69) while it is in dry dock. General Dynamics is expected to complete work on this contract by November 2014.
Originally built by Northrop Grumman -- now Huntington Ingalls -- the Eisenhower first launched in October 1975, was commissioned in 1977, and is expected to remain in service through at least 2025.

The U.S. Navy will acquire at least nine new destroyers between this year and 2017 after General Dynamics and Huntington Ingalls won contracts worth more than $6 billion for the shipbuilding project.

UAE to purchase General Atomics Predators

The United Arab Emirates has signed a $197 million deal to purchase the international version of the General Atomics Aeronautical Systems Predator unmanned air system.
The sale, although involving General Atomics aircraft, was technically inked with the International Golden Group (IGG), which had previously selected the Predator XP on behalf of the UAE armed forces.

Los vehículos de ruedas que han pasado la criba son el Piranha V, de General Dynamics, y el VBCI de la francesa Nexter. Los cinco vehículos comenzarán una serie de pruebas el mes próximo, si se sigue el calendario previsto, aunque, según Defense News, estos ensayos podrían iniciarse en apenas un par de semanas.

El gobierno español acuerda la resolución del contrato de compra de 20 vehículos RG-31 por incumplimiento del contratista

El Consejo de Ministros ha aprobado un Acuerdo por el que se autoriza la resolución del contrato de adquisición de veinte vehículos blindados todo terreno tipo pelotón (RG31) para zona de operaciones, suscrito con la empresa General Dynamics-Santa Bárbara Sistemas, S.A. La adquisición de estos vehículos fue autorizada por el Consejo de Ministros el 8 de septiembre de 2011, por un importe estimado de 15.331.807,59 euros. Posteriormente, la Dirección General de Armamento y Material del Ministerio de Defensa formalizó el contrato el 4 de octubre del mismo año con Santa Bárbara Sistemas.

Durante la ejecución del citado contrato fue necesario aprobar modificaciones que afectaban el plazo de ejecución, ampliándolo hasta el 30 de octubre de 2012. Con posterioridad, Defensa constató que los vehículos no cumplían un requisito crítico establecido en el Pliego de Prescripciones Técnicas, lo que hacía imposible la recepción en el plazo previsto. Ante esa situación, la empresa solicitó una nueva ampliación del plazo de trece meses. Iniciado ya el programa de repliegue de la tropas españolas en la Zona de Operaciones de Afganistán, y dado que la adquisición estaba dirigida al apoyo de las tropas en esta zona, la Oficina del Programa respondió a la empresa que en la situación actual no es de interés para la Administración recibir los vehículos en una fecha tan tardía, proponiendo la resolución del contrato al no considerar procedente continuar otorgando ampliaciones del plazo de entrega.

España adquiere munición a Santa Bárbara por 20 millones de euros/ General Dynamics Awarded Four-year Ammunition Contract by Spanish Army

The Ministry of Defense of Spain has awarded General Dynamics European Land Systems, through its Spanish subsidiary Santa Barbara Sistemas S.A., a four-year contract for the supply of 5,56x45 mm NATO ammunition for the Spanish Army, Air Force and Navy. The contract has a maximum potential value of approximately 20 million euros ($27.9 million) if all options are exercised.
