The An-140-100 transport plane will be put in service with Russia’s Baltic Fleet by the end of this year.
A total of eight An-140 planes will be put in service with all four Russian fleets. The navy received the first An-140 plane in April.
The plane, developed as a replacement for the outdated An-24 and An-26 cargo aircraft, can carry up to 6 metric tons of cargo for a range of over 2,000 kilometers, and can be used for patrol, military transport and spec-ops missions.
The Russian military has outlined plans to continue buying the An-140s to meet the pressing need for lightweight tactical cargo planes.

Defense Ministry Mulls An-26 Cargo Plane Replacement
Russia is considering two possible designs for a replacement for the obsolete Antonov An-26 military transport aircraft
Russia is considering development of a light military transport plane based on the Antonov An-140, or the Ilyushin Il-112V.
The An-26 is a twin-engined turboprop aircraft designed and produced in the USSR from 1969 to 1985.
The An-140-100 was developed by Russia's Antonov design bureau as a replacement for the An-24 and An-26 series aircraft. It can carry up to six metric tons of cargo to a range of over 2,000 kilometers, and can be used for patrol, military transport and special-ops missions.

An-140 Enters Service with Russian Military
The Russian navy introduced the first of a planned eight Antonov An-140-100 twin turboprops at Ostafievo naval air station. This follows delivery of four similar aircraft to the Russian Air Force, three of which are based at Chkalovsky airbase. But it is still unclear whether the Russian ministry of defense will order the Ukrainian design in quantity. A rival tactical design, the Ilyushin Il-112, may yet be produced to meet Russia’s light tactical airlift requirements.
