Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters have been grounded after ash deposits were found in engines.
The BBC reports that all Royal Air Force Typhoon fighters have been grounded after volcanic ash deposits were found in the engines of at least one aircraft after operational flights yesterday.
All training at the Typhoon main operating base of RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire was suspended today and the grounding ban was extended to other RAF types with all aircraft at nearby RAF Waddington being grounded.
A spokesman said the grounding was the RAF "just being extra cautious" but it is understood from sources at the base that at two aircraft were affected out of the dozen or so training sorties completed yesterday.

Los ministros de transporte de la Unión Europe, han acordado levantar parte de las restricciones de vuelo causada por la nube de ceniza del volcán islandés, a partir del 20 de Abril.

European transport ministers have agreed to ease restrictions on ash-hit air traffic from 20 April. The new measures will come into effect from 08:00.
The decision follows ministerial discussions on the "unprecedented" closure of airspace in response to an Icelandic volcanic ash cloud. The gradual opening of airspace follows a recommendation agreed unanimously between authorities of the 38 Eurocontrol member states. Kallas defends the time taken to agree the measures, arguing that there was no unreasonable delay in bringing ministers together to address the situation given its unexpected nature.

LA NUBE DE CENIZA VOLCANICA SUSPENDE PUENTE AEREO REINO UNIDO-AFGANISTAN/ASH CLOUD: UK MoD suspends 'airbridge' operation with Afghanistan

The Royal Air Force has suspended flights between the UK and Afghanistan as a result of the restrictions imposed while a cloud of volcanic ash remains over much of Europe.
The action has temporarily halted its ability to fly in essential supplies, evacuate injured personnel and repatriate those killed in action.
Dubbed the “airbridge”, the link with Afghanistan is normally maintained using the RAF’s Lockheed TriStar transports (below) and Boeing C-17 strategic transports, plus a variety of leased commercial passenger and freight aircraft. Around 230,000 passengers are currently processed at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire per year, the service says.
