Russia keen to sell Tor-M2KM anti-missile defence system to India

Russia is keen to offer its anti-missile system Tor-M2KM to India, with the latter slated to undergo a series of tests.
As part of the recently announced tender for 52 short-range air defence systems to form two missile regiments in the Indian Army, Russia has decided to test a modified version of the Tor-M2KM.
The main mission is to neutralise precision guided weapons, the spokesman added. The Tor-M2KM is equipped with modern electronics and radar capable of detecting and handling up to 48 targets, displaying information on the 10 most dangerous ones, and destroying four air targets simultaneously.

Sochi’s Anti-Aircraft Missile Defense System

With less than a month to go before the Winter Olympics in Sochi, the Russians are wheeling out the big guns. Literally. Aside from the so-called ring of steel lockdown around the Black Sea resort city, the army has also deployed air defense systems—that’s military for missiles—to guard the airspace over the games.
While it may seem like a curious choice—the biggest threat to the games appears to be from homegrown terrorists who favor suicide bombs—there is precedent for this.
During the London Olympics, several anti-aircraft missile sites were set up around the city, much to the chagrin of residents of at least one apartment block who sued to have the weapons removed from the roof of their building. (They lost.) Similar missile systems were also deployed in Beijing in 2008 and Athens in 2004.
The Tor-M air defense systems are designed to “detect, track and destroy all kinds of ballistic and cruise missiles, aerial bombs, drones and conventional aircraft, including ones employing stealth technology.”
The Tor-Ms are not the only missile systems being deployed, according to Russian reports. Longer-range missile batteries are also in place, and Russian navy ships are armed with surface-to-air missiles on the Black Sea.
Sochi’s extraordinary security measures also include drones, tight restrictions on car access into the city and visible army patrols.

Iran rejects Russia’s offer to replace S-300 systems with Tor systems

Iran’s ambassador to Russia says Tehran has rejected Moscow’s proposal to provide the Islamic Republic with a substitute for the S-300 systems, which should have been delivered under a bilateral arms deal.
Iran’s ambassador told on Monday that the proposed substitute, the Tor anti-aircraft system, “would be unable to fulfill the S-300’s functions” within Iran’s national defense system.
Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was required to provide Iran with at least five S-300 missile systems.
However, Moscow refused to deliver the systems to Iran under the pretext that they were covered by the fourth round of the UN Security Council resolutions against Iran.
