Singapore considers buying larger ship for humanitarian ops

Singapore is considering buying a Joint Multi-Mission Ship (JMMS),that will enable it to send more helicopters to crisis-hit areas.
After the Singaporte experience in helping with relief efforts for Typhoon Haiyan, which hit the Philippines in November, it was underscored the need for a JMMS, which has greater capacity and longer range than the LST. The latter can carry two Super Puma helicopters or one Chinook.
The Ministry of Defence is in the final legs of evaluating what is required for such a ship.

Singapore set to complete F-35 assessment

Singapore is close to completing its evaluation of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, which it sees as a possible fit for its future requirements.

"Though the F-35 aircraft is still in development, we are nonetheless interested in the platform for our future needs," defence minister Ng Eng Hen said in a speech to parliament on 11 March. "The F-35 will be the vanguard of next generation fighter aircraft when operational."

Ng added that the nation's force of Northrop F-5S fighters is at the end of its service life, and that its Lockheed F-16C/Ds are at their "mid-way mark". According to Flightglobal's World Air Force's directory, Singapore operates 26 F-5s and 60 F-16s.

Singapur ofrece a Chile un buque de desembarco/ Singapore Offers LPD for Chilean Navy

El comandante en jefe de la Armada Chilena ha confirmado el interés de su servicio en hacerse con dos buques de asalto y desembarco en 2012, procedente de otras marinas, y uno nuevo mas adelante.
Francia ofrece el buque Foudre. Italia transferiría uno de sus buques San Giorgio en 2014 y otro en 2017. Singapur ofrece uno de sus buques clase Endurance.
Algunos astilleros que han ofrecido la construcción de una segunda unidad son Navantia de España, DCNS de Francia, Fincantieri de Italia, TKMS de Alemania y Daewoo de Corea del Sur.
La compra de buques LPD ha sido vista como necesaria tras los últimos desastres naturales sufridos por Chile desde 2007, tales como terremotos, tsunamis y erupciones volcánicas, fenómenos en los que se necesitaba gran capacidad de transporte.
Tampoco hay que desdeñar el incremento de proyección militar que conseguiría Chile.

The commander-in-chief of the Chilean Navy, has confirmed that the service hopes to acquire two landing platform dock (LPD)-type amphibious assault ships in 2012.
France is offering Foudre vessel (L9011).
Italy would offer one of its San Giorgio-class ships in 2014, followed by a sister ship between 2016 and 2017. Singapore is also offering one of its Endurance-class LPDs.
Various shipbuilders have expressed an interest in building ships tailored to Chilean Navy requirements, including Spain's Navantia, France's DCNS, Italy's Fincantieri, Germany's TKMS and South Korea's Daewoo.
The case for procuring LPDs has been reinforced by a series of natural disasters, including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tsunami that have affected Chile since 2007. Those emergencies called for mass evacuations and the transporting of large amounts of aid.
The acquisition of LPDs is also aimed at increasing Chile's power-projection capabilities and would parallel an expansion of the country's marine infantry force from its current strength of 3,000 to 5,000.

IAI adaptará su G550 AEW para misiones de vigilancia marítima/ IAI to adapt G550 for maritime surveillance role

Israel Aerospace Industries está ofreciendo una versión modificada de vigilancia marítima de su avión de alerta temprana y vigilancia G550 basado en un avión comercial de Gulfstream.
La intención es cubrir las necesidades que tienen algunos países de conseguir una imagen clara de su zona marítima.
El G550 está en servicio con las fuerzas aéreas de Israel y Singapur.

Israel Aerospace Industries is offering a modified version of its Gulfstream G550-based conformal airborne early warning (CAEW) aircraft that has the capability to detect targets at sea and near shores.
"The need of many countries is to get a full picture of their sea border zone and integrate it into one big potential threat picture," says an IAI source.
G550 is currently used by the air forces of Israel and Singapore.

La Fuerza Aérea de Singapur (RSAF), está mostrando el Gulfstream 550AEW recientemente adquirido por primera vez, en el Singapore Airshow. Singapur ha recibido recibió su primer avión en Febrero de 2008, y ha pedido 4 en total. La RSAF, está guardando un secreto absoluto sobre el avión, pero se piensa que ha sido modificado para portar la plataforma AEW ELTA.
La RSAF nunca ha confirmado las especificaciones, pero se piensa que es similar a la del G550 de la fuerza aérea israelí que entraron en servicio en 2008.
Israel Aerospace Industries, publicita que el modelo puede volar durante 9 horas a una altura de vuelo de 41.000ft pies (12.500m) y a 185 km. de su base. Las antenas de radar en el frontal y en los lados del fuselaje le proporcionan 360º de exploración, con una tripulación de 6 operadores.
El G550 modificado tiene instalado pod de medidas electrónicas, comunicaciones por satélite y datalink. Elta, "el fabricante", dice que el impacto de las modificaciones en las prestaciones del avión es mínimo.
Las entregas del G550 AEW de Singapur, están previstas para el periodo 2008-2010 y sustituirán a los 4 Northrop E-2C, en servicio hace mas de 20 años.

The Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) is publicly displaying its modified Gulfstream 550-based airborne early warning (AEW) platform for the first time at the Singapore Airshow.
Singapore received its first aircraft in February 2008 and has ordered four of the G550s. The service has been highly secretive about the aircraft. It is understood that has been modified to carry the Elta conformal AEW platform.
The RSAF has never confirmed the specifications, but it is believed that it has a similar configuration to the Israeli air force's G550-based conformal AEW (CAEW) aircraft, which entered service early 2008.
Israel Aerospace Industries subsidiary Elta says the CAEW platform offers a mission endurance of 9h when operating at an altitude of 41,000ft (12,500m) and 185km from its home base. The aircraft features dual S-band radar arrays at the front and rear, plus L-band sensors on the fuselage side, providing 360° coverage. Israel's configuration has six on-board operator stations.
The modified G550 also has pod-housed electronic support measures equipment, plus satellite communications and line-of-sight datalinks. Elta says the airframe modifications have "minimal impact" on the business jet's performance.
The formal delivery period for its G550 AEW aircraft is late 2008 to 2010. The aircraft will replace four Northrop E-2Cs that have been in service for more than 20 years.
