Mauritanian, Senegalese air forces order AW109 AgustaWestland helicopters
The Mauritanian Air Force has ordered two AW109 helicopters and the Senegalese Air Force a single AW139 from AgustaWestland.
The contract with Mauritania was signed on June 17 at the Paris Air Show.
The AW109 helicopters would be used for border patrol and reconnaissance missions, and would be delivered in mid-2014 in a multi-role homeland security configuration and the contract also includes training and support package.
Mauritania’s Air Force only flies two other helicopters – Chinese Harbin Z-9As delivered in 2003.
The Mauritanian Air Force has been growing in recent times, especially in response to Islamic terrorist organisations operating in the region. Four Embraer EMB-312F Tucanos were received from France in 2010 and 2011, while the nation began taking delivery of new Super Tucanos in October 2012.
Also at the Paris Air Show, AgustaWestland announced that it had signed a contract for a single AW139 medium helicopter, which will be operated by the Senegal Air Force. It will most likely be used for VIP transport.
The contract marks the entrance of AgustaWestland helicopters in the regional market, and includes in-country support services and training for both aircrew and maintainers.
Senegal is also expanding its air force, with the country recently ordering three A-29 Super Tucanos from Embraer. The contract was signed on April 10 this year.

Kamov Working On Naval Alligator Version
With the Ka-52 now in Russian army service and being touted for export, the design bureau is busy working on a maritime version for the Russian navy.
The side-by-side seating of the Ka-52 promotes crew coordination, according to Kamov design bureau general designer.
In its Russian army version, the Ka-52 has a weapons suite including 9K120 Ataka and 9K121 Vikhr-1 missilesIt has a 2A42 30mm cannon and the ability to carry S-8 80mm unguided rockets. It can also carry Igla-S air-to-air missiles as part of the Strelets system. The helicopter is well protected with the President-S self-defense suite.
For the Russian navy’s Ka-52K Kamov is working on new weapons capabilities that are more applicable to a life at sea, according to NATO standards, bringing in foreign equipment or weapons.”
The Ka-52K is intended to serve from a variety of Russian navy vessels, but primarily the two Mistral-class amphibious assault vessels that Russia is buying from France. Ka-52K, will fly as soon as the French deliver Mistral vessels. When Mistral comes to St.Petersburg, the helicopter will be ready.
India has been identified as a good opportunity for the Ka-52. Kamov maintains that there is potential for sales there.

Just over 10 years on from the signature of a combined development and production contract for the A400M, one of the programme's first pair of customer aircraft is making its public debut.
The appearance at Le Bourget of aircraft MSN8 has some similarities with that of the A400M development example that took part in the last Paris air show. It will make a brief flypast of the site, before touching down and taking its place on the static display line.
