Pruebas de enorme dirigible de transporte militar en EE.UU.

La compañía estadounidense Aeros anunció la finalización exitosa del primer vuelo de prueba de la única aeronave dirigible híbrida, Aeroscraft, capaz de llevar 66 toneladas de carga. Los militares estadounidenses esperan ansiosamente este avanzado dispositivo de uso militar, cuyo desarrollo es financiado por el Pentágono. Se prevé que el enorme dirigible, de 66 toneladas de peso útil y de aproximadamente 137 metros de longitud, será capaz de revolucionar el transporte aéreo a largas distancias.

Comisión de Estados Unidos quiere cancelar el F-35B y paralizar compras del V-22/U.S. presidential commission wants F-35B axed, halt V-22 purchase

La comisión presidencial de Estados Unidos dedicada buscar medidas para reducir el déficit federal ha recomendado al Pentágono la cancelación del F-35B, y reducir la compra del resto de versiones para la USAF y la US Navy, a la mitad, recomendando comprar más F-16 y F/A-18 en su lugar. Otra medidar sería paralizar las compras del V-22 a 288 unidades.

A U.S. presidential commission tasked with looking for ways to cut the federal deficit has recommended that the Pentagon cancel the F-35B and cut the Air Force and Navy’s F-35 buy by half.
The commission recommended buying more F-16s and F/A-18s instead. The panel also wants the purchase of V-22 to stop at 288 aircraft.

El Pentágono anuncia que los trabajos del KC-X, deben comenzar el 12 de Noviembre 2010/Pentagon wants tanker bidders ready Nov. 12

El Pentágono ha comunicado a los concursantes del programa KC-X, para dotar a la USAF de 179 aviones de reabastecimiento en vuelo, que los trabajos deben comenzarse el 12 de Noviembre de 2010. Los competidores son Boeing Co. y la europea EADS.
El Pentágono comunicar el ganador en el otoño de 2010 y ha comunicado la fecha de inicios de trabajos para que los competidores puedan planificar los trabajos a realizar. La USAF necesita sustituir su KC-135 de repostaje en vuelo, ya que datan de los años 50, algo que está intentando desde 2003.

The Pentagon is telling bidders for a major tanker project to be ready to start the contract on Nov. 12.
The contract is worth at least $35 billion to build 179 refueling jets. Bids are expected from Boeing Co. and European Aeronautic Defence and Space Co.
Pentagon still hopes to award the contract in the fall, but that it set the Nov. 12 start date so that bidders could plan around it.
The request for proposals calls for the contract to be awarded on Aug. 12.
A federal procurement says bidders should prepare their proposals assuming a contract start date of Nov. 12.
The Air Force needs to replace its KC-135 refueling tankers, which date to the 1950s. It has been trying to pick someone to make the new tanker since 2003.

Estados Unidos podría adquirir mas Super Hornets/Pentagon May Buy 124 Super Hornets

El Pentágono está evaluando una oferta de Boeing para la compra de 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets adicionales. En 2009, el congreso autorizó a la US Navy a negociar la compra de Super Hornet adicionales. Boeing ofertó 89, pero la US Navy consideró la oferta insuficiente, por no producir ahorro de costes. La nueva oferta de Boeing es por 66 Super Hornet y 58 EA-18G Growler. Todo es consecuencia de la reevaluación por la US Navy y la USAF de la capacidad operativa inicial del F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, programa que sufrirá un retraso de 13 meses.

The Pentagon is asking lawmakers for more time to decide whether to buy an additional 124 F/A-18E/F Super Hornets after receiving a "viable offer" for a multiyear contract on the jets from Boeing. Last year, Congress authorized the Navy to negotiate an additional multiyear purchase of Super Hornets.Navy officials said that a Boeing multiyear offer for 89 of the jets did not provide enough savings. The new Boeing offer would give the service 66 Super Hornets and 58 EA-18G Growler. All of this comes as Navy and U.S. Air Force announced they are re-evaluating their respective initial operating capability (IOC) dates for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter following news that F-35 program will be delayed by 13 months.

Dispone de escenarios 3D en Iraq y Afganistán, donde los soldados interactuan con civiles. Los datos culturales han sido proporcionados por el ejército. El objetivo del juego es entrar en un poblado, conocer su estructura social y hechos relevantes y después trabajar con la comunidad para el éxito de la misión. Si a los civiles no les gusta el trato, los civiles se quejarán, lo que puede llevar a "perder la partida". El Pentágono lleva años invirtiendo en este tipo de simulación en zonas de combate.

New Pentagon Sim Teaches Troops to Play Nice The Pentagon’s added yet another video game to their growing collection. This time, they’re investing in a “First Person Cultural Trainer” designed to teach one-on-one cultural sensitivity to American troops. The Army’s Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) is backing University of Texas researchers to create the game, which is a 3D sim with scenarios in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Troops play themselves, and interact with Iraqi and Afghan civilians in replications of local villages. It’s a project that’s been in the works for three years, and uses cultural data provided by the military. The goal of the game is to enter a village, learn about the social structures and relevant issues, and then “work with the community” to successfully finish assigned missions.
And the game is complete with a local busy-body: if villagers don’t like you, they’ll chatter amongst themselves about it. Some of the locals have “more clout” than others. Piss off the wrong person, and it’s game over.
The Pentagon have already invested in simulation games to train for war-zone combat, improve recruitment and help treat post-traumatic stress. But cultural sensitivity might be one of the most important, and most difficult

Según Infodefensa.com, el diario La Gaceta informa que el Aeropuerto de Ciudad Real podría convertirse en base logística del Pentágono, si prospera finalmente la propuesta realizada por la empresa estadounidense Wolttan Consulting para gestionar su venta a una compañía norteamericana.
El periódico afirma que los actuales propietarios "creen" que la venta del aeropuerto se había consumado por un importe de 625 millones de euros aunque a la operación le faltaría alguna documentación para quedar definitivamente cerrada.
El periódico asegura que la empresa norteamericana interesada en el Aeropuerto de Ciudad Central podría utilizarlo como "base logística del Ejército americano" aunque no esta claro si eso significa que el Pentágono sería propietario de la misma, o más bien, se trataría de un operador logístico privado con contrato para él.
Señala, sin embargo, que de confirmarse, la compra-venta debería haber contado con el conocimiento y el visto bueno de José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, al necesitar la aprobación del Gobierno para instalar una nueva base del Ejército norteamericano que se sirva de apoyo para sus despliegues en Irak, Afganistán u Oriente Medio.

According Infodefensa.com, Spanish paper 'La Gaceta', said that Ciudad Real Airport, 200 km. south of Madrid, could be the next logistic base for the Pentagon. 'La Gaceta' unveils that the owners had sold the airport for 625 million USD, but the operation is not closed definitely.
It is not clear if the airport could be owed by Pentangon or if it would be operated by a private logistic company. 'La Gaceta' informs that the had to count with the approval of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, and Spanish Goverment to instal a new american base to support deployments in Irak, Afganistán or Middle East.

La revisión cuatrienial de Defensa de Estados Unidos, ve necesarios medios aéreos mas diversos para afrontar la siguiente década. Con los conflictos anti insugerncia como mas probables, se recomienda capacidad extra de helicópteros y sistemas aéreos no tripulados. El Ejército y el Comando de operaciones especiales obtendrían una compañia de helicópteros modernizados, MH-47G. La USAF obtendría 16 nuevos C-130J en configuración de cañonero, retirando los modelos mas antiguos de AC-130. Además se añadiría un C-130 de alerta temprana. La Armada (US Navy), sería dotada de E/A-18G Growlers adicionales. Se alargaría la vida util de los EA-6B Prowler. En el año fiscal 2011 se prevee un incremento de UAV Predator/Reaper.

The US Quadrennial Defense Review report sees the need for more diverse air assets over the next decade. With counter-insurgency conflicts likely to prevail, is recommended extra rotary-wing, unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and counter-improved explosive device (IED) assets. The Army and US Special Operations Command will gain a company of upgraded cargo helicopters, most likely Boeing’s MH-47G, to add to the Army’s Special Operations Aviation Regiment. The US Air Force is to get 16 new C-130Js converted into the gunship configuration with older model AC-130 being retired.The fleet will be enlarged from 25 to 33 aircraft. For counter-IED operations, one additional C-130 aircraft outfitted in the Early Warning configuration will be provided and the Navy will procure additional E/A-18G Growlers with the Marine Corps extending the service life of its fleet of EA-6B Prowlers.
In its FY 2010 plan, the DoD made a commitment to grow to a capacity of 50 sustained orbits of the Predator/Reaper UAS by FY 2011, and will continue to expand the force to 65 orbits by FY 2015.

Según AirForceTimes, un informe emitido por la Air Force Association, el lobby mas influyente en la fuerza aérea, desea el fin de las misiones de bombardeo nuclear para los bombarderos de la Fuerza Aérea.
Dos antiguos oficiales quieren que el servicio deje esta misión, excepto para misiles intercontinales (ICBM), dedicando la siguiente generación de bombarderos a armas convencionales. Este informe llega cuando la siguiente generación de bombarderos está bajo fuerte discusión. El Pentágono está elaborando un informe en el que recomienda pasar de las misiones nucleares de ICBM, submarinos y bombarderos, a sólo ICBM y submarinos.

According AirForceTimes, a report issued by Air Force Association, the Air Force’s main lobbying group, wants end of nucler strike role for bombers.
Two former Air Force officials want the service to drop its nuclear mission except for intercontinental ballistic missiles, dedicating its next-generation bomber solely to conventional weapons.
Released through the Air Force Association’s think tank, the Mitchell Institute for Airpower Studies, the report comes at a time when both the nation’s nuclear forces and the next-generation bomber are already generating much discussion.
Air Force leaders are hashing out what they want in a new bomber, scheduled for delivery in 2018, and the Pentagon is finishing a congressionally mandated nuclear forces review due in March.
The report recommends the U.S. gradually shift from three ways of deploying nuclear warheads —land-based intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarines and bombers — to two ways, the ICBMs and submarines.
