Eurocopter and the German Federal Ministry of Defense signed a contract for 15 EC645 T2 Light Utility Helicopters (LUH) to be used by Kommando Spezialkräfte (KSK), Germany’s Special Forces Command. With this order, the Bundeswehr has now joined the customer list for the most powerful model in Eurocopter’s proven EC145 family.
The contract, worth a total of 194 million euros, includes not just the helicopters but also the related equipment packages to allow KSK to carry out its special operations missions. Deliveries of the 15 aircraft begin in late 2015 and will be completed by mid-2017.

Eurocopter presents EC145 T2 mock-up
While the first two prototypes of the Eurocopter EC145 T2 are employed in the flight-test programme, the manufacturer is showing a mock-up of the upgraded medium-twin in special forces configuration as part of its static display between halls 2 and 3.
The aircraft had its first flight in June 2010 and Eurocopter is aiming for certification around the end of this year. The most distinctive feature that differentiates the T2 from the standard EC145 is the shrouded "Fenestron" tail rotor, which required a completely redesigned empennage and tail boom - all of which is now made out of carbon composite.
