Syria has removed several Scud missiles and dozens of launchers from a base north of Damascus, possibly to protect the weapons from a Western attack.
The move from the position in the foothills of the Qalamoun mountains, one of Syria's most heavily militarized districts, appears part of a precautionary but limited redeployment of armaments in areas of central Syria still held by Assad's forces.

Hizbullah got Scud D missiles from Syria with 700 km range
Israel has determined that the Iranian-sponsored Hizbullah acquired the extended-range Scud D ballistic missile from Syria. A senior Israeli official asserted that Hizbullah obtained an unspecified number of Scud Ds from Syrian military arsenals.
Amos Gilad, head of the Defense Ministry’s Political-Military Directorate, said the Scud D contained a warhead of 150 kilograms and could fly 700 kilometers. “It can strike Israel from anywhere in Lebanon,” Gilad said. In an address to the Israel Missile Defense Association on Feb. 26,
Gilad said Hizbullah recently acquired the Scud Ds.
