Pakistan confirms Su-35 talks

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has discussed buying Su-35 'Flanker-E' fighter aircraft from Russia in potentially the largest defence deal between the two countries, but a final decision is yet to be made.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov had said talks were underway for an unspecified number of Su-35s, which follow a recent agreement to provide Mi-35M 'Hind E' attack helicopters to Islamabad.
While the official said "it's too early to say if a deal will conclude and the terms", the fact that discussions have taken place shows Russia's willingness to sell advanced hardware with Pakistan despite Moscow's longstanding ties with India.
The official said Pakistan's interest in the Su-35 was driven by the PAF's need for a twin-engine fighter "that can fly for a longer range than the JF-17 and penetrate more deeply into the enemy's territory". The PAF flies a mixed fleet of Lockheed Martin F-16s, Dassault Mirage-5s, Chinese-manufactured F-7s, and the JF-17 Thunder, which is jointly produced by China and Pakistan.
Pakistan is in discussions with China to buy 30 to 40 FC-31s - the export version of China's J-31 fifth-generation platform, because it is fitted with two RD-93 Russian Klimov engines, which also powers the JF-17. PAF in the past also considered the purchase of up to 40 Chengdu J-10 fighters.

China and Pakistan Begin Biannual Air Exercise Shaheen 2

China and Pakistan last week began a three-week air exercise titled Shaheen 2 (Falcon 2) in Hetian Prefecture of China’s northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
The exercise, which lasts until Sept. 22, is the second in a series of such exercises, the first of which was held in Pakistan in March 2011.
Shaheen 2 will be the first time an air force of another country will be participating in such an exercise in Chinese airspace.
The Air Force here did not reveal any further details, such as participating aircraft, or if there had been any changes to the size, scope or format of the exercise since 2011.
However, an APP report last week stated Chengdu F-7PG and Mirage aircraft had traveled to China to participate in Shaheen 2.
Pakistan’s latest fighter type, the Sino-Pakistani JF-17 Thunder, is operational with two Pakistani Air Force (PAF) squadrons, but has not been sent to participate on this occasion.

Mirage 50EV cedidos por Venezuela a Ecuador parados por problemas logísticos

Los seis caza bombardeos Dassault Mirage 50EV/DV que Caracas cedió a Ecuador en 2009 ya con necesidad de mantenimiento para sus radares Cyrano IVM3, están fuera de servicio por dificultades de mantenimiento. Diversos componentes hidráulicos están en muy malas condiciones y los cohetes de los asientos eyectores Martin Baker MK-7 han caducado, así como su revestimiento y los misiles AM39 Exocet.
Algunos elementos de la aviónica tendrían muy escasos repuestos, cuya falta disponibilidad en el mercado se está relevando actualmente. Antes de un semestre se llegaría eventualmente a reactivarlos, si se cumplen las expectativas más optimistas relativas al futuro abastecimiento de recambios. Retirados los Mirage F1, los Kfir y los Cheetah constituyen por ahora el principal vector de combate de la Fuerza Aérea Ecuatoriana, que, en lo que atañe a aeronaves contra insurgencia (COIN), decidió reducir sus adquisiciones de Super Tucano de los originales 24 a 16, mientras que, de recuperarse los Mirage 50, por su capacidad de radar y de misiles, se les asignaría un rol cercano a la Aviación Naval.
