KAI to develop a dedicated version of its Surion helicopter for ROK Navy's Dokdo class LPH


Korea Aerospace Industries, Inc. develops the amphibious task helicopter for the Korea's Marine Corps will run. The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on the 17th that it held its 66th defense project promotion committee and selected KAI as a priority negotiator for the development of the amphibious task helicopter system.
The project, totaling approximately 800 billion won is designed for securing the helicopter which is able to transport the armed forces, military equipment and supplies to improve the military's 3-dimensional high-speed landing operations performance.

KAI to develop amphibious assault variant of Surion


Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) will develop a variant of the Surion transport helicopter for the South Korean marines.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration "has selected KAI as a primary negotiator for the development of the amphibious task helicopter system", the South Korean company said in a statement.

South Korea selects AH-64E, KAI to supply Surions for RoK Marines




South Korea on Wednesday selected Boeing's AH-64E Apache Guardian to replace its aging Army helicopters, the Defense Acquisition Procurement Administration (DAPA) said.
Under the 1.8 trillion won (US$1.6 billion) contract, U.S. firm Boeing will supply 36 Apache Guardians for Army battalions by 2018, along with training and logistical support, DAPA said.
The DAPA also picked Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) as the preferred bidder to build helicopters for the Marine Corps' landing maneuver operations.
KAI is South Korea's sole aircraft maker which developed the Korean Utility Helicopter (KUH) called Surion.
Under the deal, KAI will make the Marine Corps model KUH and deliver a total of 40 helicopters to them by 2023, the DAPA said.

Primer Vuelo Helicóptero Utilitario de Corea del Sur/Korea Utility Helicopter Makes First Flight


Korea Aerospace Industries ha realizado el primer vuelo del Korea Utility Helicopter (KUH), o Surion , desarrollado en conjunto con Eurocopter. El hecho se produjo el 10 de Marzo.
Los vuelos a gran escala comenzarán a finales de Mayo, y la producción comenzará a finales de año. El KUH sustituirá en Corea del Sur a los Bell UH-1H y MD500.
KAI y Eurocopter se han unido en una joint-venture para vender el helicóptero a nivel mundial.

Korea Aerospace Industries has conducted the first flight of its Korea Utility Helicopter (KUH), which it developed with Eurocopter. Also known as the Surion, the KUH achieved the milestone on 10 March at an airbase in Sacheon, south-east of Seoul.
Full-scale flight testing will start in May, with production of the transport due to start late this year. The new model is designed to replace South Korea's ageing Bell UH-1Hs and MD Helicopters MD500s.
KAI and Eurocopter have also formed a joint-venture to market the KUH overseas. The aircraft can carry two pilots and up to 11 troops, and has a top speed of 130kt (240km/h).
