Romania's air force has accepted its first two Alenia Aeronautica C-27J Spartan tactical transports for training use, and expects the type to begin supporting international operations from early next year.
Delivered to the service's 90th Air Transport Base at Bucharest Otopeni airport on 12 April, the aircraft had first undergone a two-week period of pre-acceptance testing conducted by Romanian personnel in Italy.
Romania's current An-26s and Lockheed Martin C-130B/Hs flew 80 strategic transport missions to the Balkans, Iraq and Afghanistan last year, moving more than 4,200 soldiers and 600t of supplies, he says.

Primeros C-27J para Rumania/Romania gets first C-27Js

Alenia Aeronautica ha entregado los dos primeros C-27J de transporte de un total de un pedido de siete a la Fuerza Aérea Rumana.

Alenia Aeronautica has delivered the first two C-27J transport of an eventual seven C-27J transport aircraft to the Romanian Air Force.
The aircraft were ordered in December 2007 and will be allocated to the 901st Strategic Transport Squadron at Bucharest-Otopeni Airport, replacing older Antonov An-24 transporters. The new C-27Js will be used for transporting troops, goods and medicines, medical evacuations (MEDEVAC), dropping paratroopers, search and rescue, logistic re-supply and humanitarian assistance.

El Consejo Supremo de Defensa de Rumanía, aprobó el Martes 23 de Marzo de 2010, la compra de 24 F-16 de segunda mano para modernización de su fuerza aérea. Se han tenido en cuenta factores como la no necesidad de adquirir material nuevo, ya que no existe finaciación suficiente. La decisión debe ser aprobada ahora en el parlamento. Como aliado de Estados Unidos, el F-16 era la opción a elegir mas probable. La decisión se ha visto complicada por la crisis económica. Sustituirán a los cazas en servicio, procedentes de la era soviética. El importe total es de unos cuatro mil millones de euros. Se consideraron el F-18 de Boeing Co, el Rafale de Dassault , el Grippen de Saab y el Eurofighter de EADS.

Romania's Supreme Defence Council on Tuesday approved the acquisition of 24 second-hand F16 fighters produced by Lockheed Martin Corp (LMT.N) to modernise its air force.
"Taking into account that Romania does not have the needed financial resources to buy new planes, the Council okayed a defence ministry proposal to acquire 24 F16 used planes," the council said in a statement. It said the plan would be subject to parliament's approval. Romania is a U.S. ally and some analysts had said the F16 was a likely choice. The economic crisis complicated the NATO member's effort to seal a planned multi-billion euro fighter purchase, a deal aimed at replacing its elderly Soviet-era MiGs. Five aircraft were in the running, and the cost of the deal has been estimated at over 4 billion euros. Romania's choices also included the F-18 from Boeing Co (BA.N), the Rafale from France's Dassault (AVMD.PA), the Grippen from Sweden's SAAB (SAABb.ST) and the Eurofighter from EADS (EAD.PA).
