Austria will receive 3 additional second hand Eurofighters form Germany

Amid significant increase of the budget with the Bundesheer, because of war in Ukraine, part of the additional money will initially be used to retrofit airspace surveillance with the purchase of three former Luftwaffe (GAF, German Air Force) EF2000(T) two-seat Eurofighters. It is not yet known which German EF2000(T)s are earmarked to be sold to Austria.

Indonesia wants to buy Eurofighters from Austria

After initial clearance from the United States State Department to buy an MV-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft, news broke that Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto intended to buy jet fighters from Austria.
Austrian newspaper Die Presse reported on Sunday that Prabowo had sent a letter to his Austrian counterpart Klaudia Tanner offering to buy the country's 15 Eurofighter Typhoon jet fighters.
The letter was dated July 10 and arrived at the Austrian Defense Ministry late last week, Die Presse reported.

Austria set to replace Eurofighter Typhoons, Economically Unsustainable

Austria is set to replace the small fleet of fighter jets to patrol its airspace following an announcement today that the collection of Eurofighter Typhoons and Saab 105 OE aircraft would be phased out.
Defense Minister Hans Peter Doskozil's decision follows the advice of an expert commission that had studied options for securing the country's skies after 2020. At that time, the subsonic Saab planes would reach the end of their economic lives and would be retired anyway. And because the fleet of 15 Eurofighter Typhoons are of the early Tranche-1 generation, those aircraft also are considered militarily sub par in their current configuration and economically unsustainable.

Hungarian air-force may police Austrian skies

Expected budget restrictions mean that Austria may be reliant on Hungary air-force to fly missions in Austria's air space.
If a jet is hijacked over Austria, the air-force is scrambled -- but from Hungary, since Austria lacks the capabilities.
Austria would be heavily dependent on its nearest EU allies in the event of a military situation, due to the unexpected costs and budget restriction of current capabilities.
In real terms, Austria's latest defense budget will spend 0.5% of the country's GDP.
The move to radically cut defense spending and rely on allies increases the likelihood that Austria will experience what happened in Switzerland earlier in the year, when a hijacked Ethiopian plane was forced to land in Geneva - escorted by French fighters, since Swiss military planes only fly during regular office hours.

Austria's first Hercules enters modernisation programme

The UK's Marshall Aerospace and Defence Group has begun a maintenance and modernisation programme on the Austrian air force's first Lockheed Martin C-130K tactical transport, under a deal announced in late 2011.
Now undergoing work at the company's Cambridge airport site in eastern England, the Austrian aircraft is one of three to have been acquired from surplus UK Royal Air Force stocks in 2002.
Originally delivered between 1967 and 1968, the K-model Hercules will receive new avionics equipment to address obsolescence issues and to overcome operational restrictions in European airspace
