MIRAGE F1M EJERCITO DEL AIRE (SPANISH AIR FORCE) FAREWELL
A retirement ceremony will be held at Albacete Air Base on 23rd June, South East of Spain, base of the last remaining eight Mirage F1 in service with Ejército del Aire. Mirage F1M, nicknamed 'La Abuela' (The Grandma), has been in service with Ejército del Aire since 1975, and her retirement is due to budgetary constrictions and low flight hours remaining. The Mirage F1M will be replaced by Eurofighter Typhoon, actually 142 Sqn. based in Albacete has eight on service, borrowed from Ala 11 Morón Air Base. New deliveries are expected along 2013.
There has been rumours about Argentinian Air Force could be interested in acquiring some of them, but any contract has been stamped yet.
55 Spanish Mirages F1 suffered major improvements in the period of 2000-2002.
