Spain needs a strategic plan to support key industries such as aeronautics that create employment and capabilities for the future, according to the CEO of Airbus Operations in the country.
We ought to stop thinking of Spain as a 'low cost' country," said Domingo Ureña, who is also executive vice president for military aircraft in the group's Defence and Space division.
Speaking at a conference organised by Executive Forum España, he stated that "industry and technology should be [seen as] the hard core of Spain's GDP and that needs to start now".
Ureña noted that Spain needs its political parties to agree on a five- to 10-year strategic plan to define which industries it needs to preserve and develop, "so the brakes are not put on with changes of government".
