El gobierno de Singapur ha seleccionado el M-346 de Alenia Aermacchi, como futuro entrenador, venciendo en el concurso al T-50 Golden Eagle de KAI (Corea del Sur). EL M-346, también venció al T-50 en el concurso de entrenadores para Emiratos Árabes Unidos. De esta forma el M-346, se afianza como favorito en los actuales concursos de Polonia, Estados Unidos e Iraq.
Singapur contratará un sistema completo de entrenamiento, incluyendo simuladores y clases de instructores. Emiratos Árabes Unidos solo quería contratar el avión.
Alenia se presentaba al concurso en unión con la local ST Aero para competir contra KAI-Lockheed en Singapur.

Singapore's government has selected Italy's Alenia Aermacchi, maker of the M-346 aircraft, as the preferred bidder in its trainer jet contest
As a result, South Korea's T-50 Golden Eagle aircraft suffered a second defeat, following a loss last year in a trainer jet competition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Once confirmed, however, the defeat in the Singapore competition will likely deal a serious blow to KAI's potential trainer jet tenders in other nations, such as Poland, the United States and Iraq.
Singapore will contract for a total training system, including simulators and classroom trainers. The UAE is choosing an aircraft and will then hold a separate competition for a training system provider.
Aermacchi teamed up with Singapore defense company ST Aero to compete with the KAI-Lockheed team in Singapore.
