Spain is set to dispatch an additional six medium-range Hawk launchers to Ukraine.

During his visit to Spain to attend the EU Prime Ministers summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took the opportunity to make additional requests for supplies to Spanish Prime Minister.
The outcome of their meeting resulted in Spain committing to send an extra six Hawk missile launchers to Ukraine, supplementing the initial six that had already been dispatched, along with Aspide missiles, demining equipment, and anti-drone systems. The exact specifications of these systems have not yet been disclosed.
Prime Minister Sánchez also pledged to provide technical guidance to the Ukrainian military on how to effectively use these resources. In his role as the acting EU president, Sánchez expressed a commitment to supporting Ukraine's integration into the European Union during his term.
All of the equipment discussed by both leaders is critically important for Ukraine's defense. Anti-aircraft systems have been effective in countering Russian aviation and missiles, demining tools ensure safe troop movements and civilian protection, and anti-drone systems are crucial in countering the emerging threat of drone warfare.
Highlighting the importance of this need, TRC introduced an advanced version of its Cervus III system at the recent 2E+I Forum. This system incorporates artificial intelligence and machine learning, reducing the need for human intervention in decision-making processes and improving success rates. Currently in use by the army, it is a unique Spanish-made system and one of the few in operation within the country.
Other active systems primarily focus on countering small drones using inhibitors. In contrast, Secretary of State for Defense Amparo Valcarse announced plans for domestic production of neutralization systems against unmanned systems armed with missiles, artillery, and mortars, using high-energy laser-assisted systems.
These supplies supplement previous shipments from Spain, which initially included ammunition, small arms, medical supplies, and the armored ambulance RG-31 in response to the advancing Russian forces. Subsequent shipments included additional weaponry, winter clothing, medical equipment, fuel, artillery ammunition, TOA vehicles, and the initial Aspide air defense system.
In the months that followed, Spain sent 22 specialized vehicles, including military ambulances, trucks, Vamtac, and Anibal transports. These were followed by more Hawk launchers, 105mm Light Gun howitzers, additional Hawks, and electricity generators. Notably, the shipment of the Leopard tank marked the peak of these consignments.
