El primer helicóptero modernizado AgustaWestland Merlin Mk2 ha realizado su primer vuelo dos días antes de lo previsto. El vuelo duró 35 minutos, y se realizó desde la fábrica de Yeovil.
AgustaWestland recibió el contrato en 2006, por un importe de 750 millones de libras para modernizar 30 helicópteros Merlin de la versión Mk 1 a la Mk 2 para la Royal Navy.
La conversión a gran escala comenzará en 2012, entrado en servicio en 2013.

The first upgraded AgustaWestland Merlin Mk2 helicopter has made its initial flight two months ahead of schedule.
The 35min flight from AgustaWestland's Yeovil plant in southwest England went as planned.
Under a 2006 £750 million ($1.13 billion) Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme (MCSP) the two companies are upgrading 30 Merlin Mk1s for the UK Royal Navy.
Full-rate conversion will start at Yeovil in early 2012 with the Mk2 entering service in 2013 and achieving full operational capability the following year.
